As a girl growing up in Roanoke, Virginia, Maxine loved Hawaiian music and the lap steel guitar. She studied with stell master Elmer Ridenhour before launching into a career in which she's recorded Hawaiian, R&B, rock and jazz with Mary McCaslin and Jayme Kelly Curtis, appeared with Freddie Roulette at Colin Adler's Lapstravaganza in Santa Cruz in 2007, and collaborated with Cyril Pahuanui, Eddie Kamae and Patrick Landeza.
