18th Annual International Anza Society Conference at Monterey Hilton

The California Central Coast was changed forever when Lt. Colonel Juan Bautista de Anza, explorer and capitain, touched down on these shores. In 1776 he made camp at the Real Presidio de San Carlos de Monterrey—within two blocks of the Hilton Garden Inn, where the Anza Society hosts its 18th annual international conference March 7-10. Speakers discuss the latest research on 18th century Spanish colonial history, including the discovery of the Serra Chapels and Spanish-era Monterey. The conference concludes with the screening of short film The Anza Expedition of 1775-1776 at the Museum of Monterey, with a discussion by Anza Trail experts. [KA]
