It's been almost 6 months since people last saw the antics of the aquarium's furry sea otters, but now they return, eliciting laughs and melting hearts. The exhibit closed for structural repairs to the habitat area, food prep station and holding pens. About three of the aquarium's five otters will be back on display, but feedings will not be on a schedule to allow them to adjust, but a new auditorium program, Luna: A Sea Otter Story, will be—it shows at noon, 2:30pm and 4:30pm daily starting March 23. And the Otter Spotter station, which lends visitors binoculars to try to track tagged otters, is now a permanent feature.
The aquarium's work with rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing otters goes back nearly 30 years; more than 600 have come through their Sea Otter Research and Conservation program. Welcome the latest group of otters back today for the grand return. [WR]
