DoD accountants could save the Peninsula after Fort Ord

California isn't known for its ability to balance budgets, and yet some say the Golden State is a prime location for the Department of Defense (DoD) to balance theirs. At least seven California cities, including Seaside, make up a list of more than 100 communities across the nation vying to get the equivalent of a small city placed in their backyard--a Defense Finance and Accounting Service center, or DFAS.
