Tough legislation on spousal rape could become a reality despite fundamentalist opposition.

Carolann Peterson says her marriage became a living hell when her husband began to act out his rage by repeatedly raping her. "I was once dragged froma room full of company, locked in the bedroom, and later raped because I had contradicted him in front of friends," Peterson said in a recent statement to Sacramento lawmakers who will soon decide whether to make spousal rape a felony--just like rape outside of marriage.
