Any reports that Gloria Steinem and the feminist movement have gone "squishy" are greatly exaggerated. Reactions to her last book, Revolution from Within: A Book of Self-Esteem (Little Brown, 1992), largely focused on what many reviewers interpreted as a sign of weakness: her declaration that she had self-esteem problems at the same time she was leading one of the century's major movements.
