Beneath the Waves

Plans begin to surface for an underwater dive park in Monterey.

Initiated by local scuba diving enthusiasts, a grassroots movement is underway to create an underwater park, named the Edward F. RIcketts Underwater Park, that would stretch from San Carlos Beach in Monterey to Lovers Point in Pacific Grove. The proposed park would include the inshore kelp beds, from 10 fathoms deep to the shore, and would prohibit kelp harvesting, spear fishing, long-lining and skiff fishing.
