When I was bound for Long Beach High School in New York there were race riots that would explode into violence with baseball bats, young girls wearing razor blades in their hair for when it was pulled, and everyone knew what bathroom wasn't safe if you were white, and which part of town was dangerous after dark if you were black. That was less than 10 years ago.
