Local health care officials strive to increase the numbers of women seeking prenatal care.

Malvina Torres, a prenatal care outreach coordinator from Natividad Medical Center in Salinas, spends her days at beauty salons, farmer's markets, Laundromats and at the Goodwill store. She says she'll go anywhere women gather to tell them how important medical care is in the early months of pregnancy.
