With 200,000 people expected to visit the proposed Steinbeck Center in Salinas annually, the questions arises, where will these visitors find comfortable overnight accommodations? A tentative plan for a new full-service hotel has local officials and business people debating whether Salinas--faced with stiff competition from the established Peninsula hospitality industry--can support such a facility.
