X-Ray Vision

An incisive behind-the-scenes look at the administration of Natividad Medical Center.

It is a surprisingly warm late-October afternoon and a group of animated young medical interns enjoy lunch on a sunny courtyard at Natividad Medical Center, an institution that last year received just over $2 million in county funds. Inside, Halloween pumpkins and gap-tooth witches decorate the cavernous corridors. Laughter echoes down the hall from the maternity ward nurses' station.
