Deadlines for landfill reduction mean local cities are lagging behind and under the gun.

Local cities struggling to comply with provisions of a state law reducing landfill disposal will have to work even harder to meet the next set of deadlines, which require a 50 percent reduction of waste going into landfills by the year 2000.
