At a time when most of us feel increasingly estranged from the conduct of our elected officials, we are a people sorely in need of heroes. We crave role models--men and women with courage and integrity--to demonstrate that there are goals and ideals worth striving to achieve. In that spirit, we present Coast Weekly's Local Heroes for 1998. May their deeds inspire you to find your own heroes. Or to become one.
