See What You Can Sea
Not much of the ocean conference is open to the public.
Thursday, June 4, 1998
Wanna take part in the National Ocean Conference, and watch the country''s top ocean experts confer with the county''s top political leaders? Well, you can''t. Sorry.
But the invite-only conference is being followed up by a massive Oceans Fair on June 12, sponsored by the Monterey Bay Ocean Consortium.
The fair, which runs from noon to 8pm in the Custom House Plaza, will feature marine technology exhibits from across the country, music, environmental activity booths, and "a flotilla of research ships and other vessels."
The free event is being billed as the "public celebration of the deep connection between people around Monterey Bay and the ocean." Among the highlights are a 3D video flyby of the Titanic wreckage, human-powered submarine rides, live video from the depths of Monterey Bay, speeches by visiting dignitaries, and live music and other entertainment all day long. (For a complete schedule, see next week''s "Hot Picks.")
