Just An Old Man
THIRD PLACE Coast Weekly 99 Word Short Story Contest
Thursday, December 23, 1999
It was an old man sitting on a bench. In the park, lost in thought. It was Henry Green.
In his lifetime, Henry had celebrated winning world wars and neighborhood ball games. He had built large businesses and small lemonade stands. And raised his children and tore down his fears.
He had walked by moonlight on beaches in Spain, stayed up all night comforting a friend. Henry had fallen passionately in love and then quietly cried when she had died.
But a person passing by that day might only see...just an old man sitting on a bench.
