Who Ya Gonna Vote For?

Street Talk

Next year, Monterey County residents will join the nation in voting for Bill Clinton''s successor. Yet on a recent afternoon on Alvarado Street, most people we chatted with didn''t have much to say about the election. In fact, many folks aren''t even sure who''s running. Luckily, a few people were willing to talk politics.

Who do you think you''ll vote for next year? I''m not politically active, but I guess Bush. He has charisma.

Who do you think will win? Probably Bush. He''s got the name recognition.

Should Warren Beatty run? Reagan did!

Has money played too much of a role in campaigning? Absolutely. Big names have big resources to buy recognition. Look at Ross Perot. It''s a money game.

Who do you think you''ll vote for? I know I won''t vote for Bush. The apple doesn''t fall too far from the tree.

Who do you think will win? Bush--he looks just like a little version of his dad. People know his name.

Should Warren Beatty run? It''s ridiculous. Ronald Reagan shouldn''t have run either.

Has money played too much of a role in the campaigning? Money buys name recognition. Every year it gets worse.

Who do you think you''ll vote for? I liked Clinton, so I guess I''ll vote for Gore. He does a pretty good job. I vote based on issues, like health care.

Do you think Warren Beatty should run? I don''t think he''d be good. Too many people want to be president who don''t know enough about politics.
