Armchair Adventurers

Sometimes it feels nice to escape into the pages of a book, to let the mind be drawn into a story and enjoy it like a movie only you can see. In the age of techno-fun, isn''t it great to know that a book can still be more exciting than all the glitz and glamour of other time-sucking pastimes? Here are a few folks with some suggested reading for us all.

James Mantooth

Translator, Carmel

What book are you currently reading? The Catholic Devotional.

What have you drawn from it? I''ve been learning about the way of the cross and the symbology of the various stations.

Would you recommend it to someone? I would recommend it, because it''s the foundation of a major system of thought, and it''s universal and practical.

Marcia D. Stearn

Merchant, Seaside

What have you been reading? The Last Time They Met by Anita Shreve.

Do you like it? Well, the writing is very good and descriptive. The people in it are very real.

What book would you re-read forever? Dragonflight by Anne McCaffrey. It''s like re-watching a good movie over and over again.

Robbie Dunton

Mental health worker, Pacific Grove

What''s a good book to read? I just got done with A Samurai''s Garden.

What is that about? It''s a metaphor for the life of two people set in Japan. It was fabulous.

Any others? You know, I want people to know about this book Confessions of Madame Psyche. It was written in the ''60s, but I don''t think many people have heard of it. It is very good.
