Sax Legend Benny Golson 1/2/2003
Thursday, January 2, 2003
Benny Golson grew up with John Coltrane and has played, over his 60-year career, with the likes of Benny Goodman, Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton and Art Blakey. During that time he composed songs that have since become jazz standards, from the elegiac "Whisper Not" and "I Remember Clifford" to the bopping "Along Came Betty" and "Blues March."
On Saturday, Jan. 4, Golson will be presented with a recognition for Lifetime Achievement by the U.S. Congress, through the office of Rep. Barbara Lee of Oakland. Lucky for us, the presentation will be made at the Jazz and Blues Company in Carmel. Afterwards, Golson will perform with the Eddie Marshall Trio.
7:30 pm. Call the Jazz and Blues Company at 624-6432 for details and ticket information.
