StreetTalk: Meet The Press

Asked at the Monterey County Herald in Ryan Ranch

Q: In light of the retirement of Tom Brokaw and Dan Rather: What qualities do you look for when searching for a news source?

Follow-up: Who is your favorite journalist?

Sukh Purewal
Staff Writer | Santa Cruz

A: Neutrality, which is something that you don’t really get from network news stations. I like middle-of-the-road news sources like CNN. I prefer NPR.

Hometown Writer: Calvin Trillin of The New Yorker.

Andreas von Bubuoff
Intern | Santa Cruz

A: Balance. Give me the information and don’t comment on it. Comments should be separate and labeled as such.

Unfair Decision: I have no favorite. There are a lot of good journalists.

Judy Isacoff
Night City Editor | Seaside

A: Accuracy. I want to make sure the information is correct and true. Reliability is also important as is reputation.

Law and Order: Edna Buchanan, police reporter for the Miami Herald.
