Freddie ‘Steady’ Krc

Texas native Freddie “Steady” Krc (rhymes with birch) started early: He joined his first band, The Sound Kings, as a drummer at 10 years old. Since then, Krc has gotten a chance to perform with a couple of legendary Texan musicians. From 1979 to 1982, Krc’s power pop band, The Explosives, was the backing group whenever famed psychedelic rocker Roky Erickson performed.

In 1977, Krc started playing drums with “outlaw” country artist Jerry Jeff Walker. Off and on until 2000, Krc toured as a part of Walker’s band, and performed on classic Walker recordings like 1977’s A Man Must Carry On. “I have done three tours of duty with Jeff,” he says.

But, after playing with Walker for about 14 years, Krc decided to spend more time with his own band, The Shakin’ Apostles.

Tonight, Krc will be performing a solo show of selections from The Explosives and The Shakin’ Apostles.

Freddie “Steady” Krc plays Ocean Thunder, located at 214 Lighthouse Ave. in Monterey, Thursday at 9pm. No cover. 643-9169.
