California, aka, ‘The Rock’: Asked in Oldtown Salinas
Thursday, March 25, 2004
Q: What should be done, if anything, about prison overcrowding?
Follow-up: What is your favorite prison-related movie or novel?
Sue Smith
Sales Clerk | Berkeley
A: We are incarcerating people for non-violent and victimless crimes. We should offer more alternative possibilities instead of wasting more money on prisons.
Wrongfully Accused: From Death Row.
Richard Fenton
Coffee Shop Owner | Salinas
A: A lot of people are put in prison because of drug charges. There should be more prevention and substance abuse programs so we can save the prisons for the real criminals.
Local Favorite: Escape from Alcatraz.
Kurt Dillard
Store Owner | Salinas
A: Like most other problems in this state, prison overcrowding is caused by a lack of money. I think the issue can be partially solved by good family upbringing.
Revenge is Sweet: The Shawshank Redemption.
