During the fall and winter seasons, major dance performances
can be scarce in Monterey County. Your best bets to watch
graceful, powerful bodies in motion are:
World Theater, CSU Monterey Bay. 582-4580. San Jose Taiko leads off the 2004 Performing Arts Series, Sept. 30. An exhilarating mix of drum music and subtle dance. Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana will bring Latin passion and live gypsy music Oct. 19.<>Dance Kids of Monterey County, 373-7300. The Nutcracker, Sunset Cultural Center, Carmel. An annual tradition the whole family can enjoy, Dec. 10-12, danced by local ballet students and guest artists.
Spectordance Studio, Marina. 384-1050. Enthusiastic artistic director Fran Spector Atkins often brings in Bay Area dance troupes for master classes and performances. On Dec. 4, she offers a Holiday Showcase, featuring the Stacey Prinze Dance Project plus parts of The Nutcracker and a new piece of Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons.”>
Tango Monterey Bay. Monterey. 394-1520. Professional guest dancers, such as Claudio Asprea and Agustina Videla on Sept. 12, often perform for and teach Argentine tango to locals.
Salinas School of Dance. 624-4655. This multi-talented dance school specializes in Irish dance and ballet. It has Open Houses on Sept. 7 and 11.
