Asked Outside Borders in Sand City

Q: What’s a musical discovery you’ve made?
Follow-up: How did you discover it?

Corey Bell

A: Porcupine Tree. I’m into a lot of acid rock and these guys are like a hard-edged Pink Floyd.

Industry Insider: The owner of a music store recommended it.

Briana Rule

A: Maroon 5. The first song I heard was “Hard to Breathe” and it struck me as very unique. The singer has a very distinct voice.

Old Fashioned Way: The radio.

Rich Cox
DLI Student | Monterey

A: I just started listening to The Sparks. They started in the early ‘70s doing pop-synth stuff but they do styles all over the board. Every album is different, with long songs, and isn’t for everyone but I really like it.
