Rock Goddess
Ariez brings a woman’s touch to heavy metal.
Thursday, May 5, 2005
The Stockton-based heavy metal quartet Morbius has something most other hard rock acts don’t have: a female lead singer. On an original titled “Whore,” vocalist Ariez sings beautiful, ethereal feminine vocals on the verses but spits incredibly angry put-downs during the song’s chorus. It is a feat where the singer shows both vulnerability and venom in the same song, an accomplishment that most male vocalists could never think of.
Another original, “Irony,” starts off sounding like Metallica’s “Unforgiven.” After a cloud of guitar, Ariez sings lines like: “no one can label me, put me in a category.”
After listening to Morbius,
I believe her.
