A Band of Ninjas mixes it up.
Thursday, August 24, 2006
For an acoustic rock group, A Band of Ninjas is known to bust out some unexpected songs onstage. In addition to Bon Jovi’s “Wanted Dead or Alive” and the Dave Matthews Band’s “Crash,” the act, which was formerly called Ninja Man, does much ridiculed white rapper Vanilla Ice’s “Ice Ice Baby” and the overlooked ‘80s roller skate jam “Word Up” by Cameo.
Formed from three bandmembers who were in the former original rock band InBalance, A Band of Ninjas is writing some new material that they might unveil at upcoming shows. “It’s stuff you would enjoy listening to,” says Brian Coelho, singer for A Band of Ninjas, “but would laugh at at the same time.”
A BAND OF NINJAS plays Ocean Thunder, 214 Lighthouse Ave. in Monterey, Saturday at 9pm. No cover. 643-9169.
