Ex-P.O.D. guitarist’s new secular band at Lava Lounge

Back in February, 2003, the big news in the national metal scene was that hard rockers P.O.D., known for their 2001 hit single “Youth of the Nation,” were parting ways with guitarist Marcos Curiel. At the time, the band sent out an e-mail saying Curiel was pursuing other interests. But Curiel maintained he was kicked out of the band because he was out-of-step with his bandmates’ beliefs as born-again Christians. He already had a side project, The Accident Experiment, featuring Ernie Longoria and Tony DeLocht of Sprung Monkey, which released an album titled United We Fear this past October. The 15-song CD shows the band combining a new rock sound with classic rock elements and hints of ‘90s hard rock acts like Soundgarden and Tool.
