Asked at Lovers Point and Asilomar Beach in Pacific Grove.

Q: DESCRIBE A PROFOUND EXPERIENCE YOU’VE HAD WITH AN ANIMAL.

Follow-up: If you could have any species roam freely in your backyard, what species would it be?

NICHOLAS WILLIAMS | Tourist | Lancaster

A: We saw a humpback whale 30 feet from our whale-watching boat start rolling over, which is a bit frightening. Two days later we saw the beached humpback. It put things into perspective on what powerful, beautiful creatures they are.

Purr Your Request: Mountain lion.

CAROLYN SCHENK | Homemaker | Pacific Grove

A: After my previous dog passed away, my dog Sadie was the last puppy left from a litter of dogs that were for free. As I held her, she just latched on, and didn’t want to let go. Sadie was a band-aid over my broken heart.

Buck Off: Bigger dogs to protect Sadie, because she was attacked in our backyard by a deer.

BILL MINOR | Musician/Writer | Pacific Grove

A: My wife and I had a dog named Ursa Minor. Ursa was a little bit neurotic, but towards the end of life grew to be almost meditative and we would sit, looking out the window together. When Ursa passed away, it was as if I saw her soul depart.

Beloved Bambi: Deer.
