The Board of Directors are back.

It’s been more than a decade since the four-piece blues band The Board of Directors released an album. Back in ’95, the group put out Choke Chain Blues, a full-length of originals that includes the horn-heavy blues of the title track.

Now, bassist/harp player/vocalist Chris Burkhardt says The Board of Directors are slowly gathering material for a live album, which will feature songs culled from recordings of their performances at Ocean Thunder.

About once a month for the past few years, The Board of Directors have been playing rocking blues for the bar’s clientele. Burkhardt says his band likes to do songs by artists like Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf along with originals including “The Monkey’s Lament,” a humorous story song about a strange relationship.

THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS play Ocean Thunder, 214 Lighthouse Ave., Monterey, Friday at 9pm. No cover. 643-9169.
