What Earth- Damaging Habit Is Hardest To Quit?

STEVE BUCK | Painter | Pacific Grove

A: Well, I work with paint, so some of the chemicals involved can be bad for the environment. We try to be as conscientious as possible.

Another Layer: Actually, we are adopting a whole new environmentally friendly line of “totally green” paints.

JANET REILLY | Real Estate Agent | Carmel

A: Without driving my car I wouldn’t be able to get around and, sadly, it’s an SUV. Eventually I’ll probably consider a hybrid but for now I need to haul my dog. And my grandkids.

Good Switch: I’m fanatical about turning off the lights in my house. Also, I use low energy fluorescent light bulbs.

GEORGE FERGUSON | River Guide | Carmel

A: I don’t always recycle. I try to. It is amazing how much of our society depends on plastic goods. We have such a mass culture of wastefulness.

Clean Karma: It’s funny, but I believe that respect for the environment begins with respecting yourself and those around you.
