Vocal Tourist

Returning to Sly McFly’s, Tony Lindsay’s on a three-continent ride.

It’s been a year since Tony Lindsay graced the stage at Sly McFly’s, but in those twelve months, the Bay Area vocalist has been busy.

For almost half that time, Lindsay performed in a touring version of the ABC-TV reality series Dancing With the Stars, a program that pairs a celebrity with a professional and sends them out on the dance floor. He and his band got to share the stage with people like talk show host Jerry Springer and ‘N Sync vocalist Joey Fatone.

More impressively, Lindsay continued his most high-profile gig as the singer for legendary Latin rock icon Santana. That job brought him onstage at a VH1 “Fashion Rocks” concert alongside artists like Aerosmith and Alicia Keyes and allowed him to co-write the song “Interplanetary Party” for Santana’s recently released greatest hits album Ultimate Santana.

Lindsay also found time to get his own band together for shows like this year’s San Jose Jazz Festival.

With an upcoming tour of Brazil with Seaside drummer Tony King and a couple dates in Russia with Santana, Lindsay says, “I must be doing something right,” he says. “Because people keep calling me.”

Tony Lindsay plays 9pm this Friday, Nov. 2 at Sly McFly’s, 700-A Cannery Row, Monterey. 649-8050.
