Another Reason to Love Salespeople

As part of our annual tribute to National Humor Month, The Carmel Institute of Humor conducted an in depth survey from members on the current status of the American Sense of Humor.

The Institute's membership consists of comedians, comedy writers, cartoonists, the clergy, humorists, and professional speakers and all who evoke laughter from audiences.

The conclusion: persons who earn their bread dealing with the public have the best sense of humor. The kind of work they do requires that they be in good spirits. Projecting a light-hearted attitude, having a relaxed rapport with people helps them accomplish their goal more easily.

Here are the folks who made the top ten funniest list:

BEST SENSE OF HUMOR
1. Business People
2. Real Estate Agents
3. Sales Reps
4. Nurses
5. Hospital Volunteers
6. Entertainers
7. Charity Workers
8. Clergy
9. Pro Athletes
10. Administrative Assistants

"Conversely, there are some people who do not find it easy to laugh," said Wilde. "The psychologists can have a field day with this." These are literal minded persons who find it difficult to let down their guard, relax, or have fun. Their minds are focused on their work and are mostly incapable of appreciating anything that's amusing or playful.

Here are the ten groups that need to take a chill-pill:

NEED TO LIGHTEN UP
1. Doctors
2. Dentists
3. Scientists
4. Financial advisors (Accountants CPA's)
5. Lawyers
6. Engineers
7. Computer nerds 8. Bankers
9. Corporate execs
10. Insurance agents
