STORMWATER RECYCLING… Last year, we reported on Pacific Grove Mayor Dan Cort’s vision of converting a corporate yard behind P.G. Middle School into a 150 acre-foot reservoir. On Aug. 20 the City Council considered a resolution to receive the feasibility study, direct staff to pursue funding for the reservoir design, and begin the California Environmental Quality Act analysis. MORE HATS IN P.G. RING… The Pacific Grove City Council race is becoming one of the hottest political campaigns on the Peninsula. Last week, we reported that six Pagrovians would battle for three open seats. Just in time for the Aug. 13 filing deadline, two more candidates joined the race: environmental rabble-rouser David Dilworth, known for battling Clint Eastwood’s developments and moth pheromones; and Daniel Miller, who unsuccessfully ran for council in 1998 and recently served on the city Planning Commission. Miller’s brother, Councilman Scott Miller, and the other two incumbents will not run. [KA]

GRANNY IN HANDCUFFS… Local peace activist MacGregor Eddy was once again arrested during a protest at Vandenburg Air Force Base. Eddy was protesting the Aug. 13 launch of a Minuteman III Intercontinental Ballistic Missile as part of Nuclear-Free Future month. Military police arrested Eddy for trespassing as well as resisting arrest and obstructing an officer. The latter charge stems from her declining to give her name. “I stated that I was a civilian and in a democracy I did not have to produce identification to military authorities while engaged in activities protected by the First Amendment,” Eddy says. This was Eddy’s third arrest at Vandenburg, and it probably won’t be her last. [ZS]

PATH TO CITIZENSHIP… The UFW Foundation will open a one-stop immigration services office in Salinas on Sept. 7. Office staff and attorneys will help legal permanent residents become citizens, as well as apply for relative petitions and waivers. “Everything related with immigration we are going to be doing,” says Ricardo Nuñez of the UFW Foundation. The foundation office is located at 437 E. Alisal St., Salinas. For information, call 757-6713. [ZS]
