DISASTER TRAINING CLASS MONTEREY—Learn how to be self-sufficient in the event of a local disaster where help is delayed for two or three days (and yes, this involves more than a case of beer and a stack of Us Weekly magazines). Register now for the Monterey Fire Department’s six-week disaster-preparedness training beginning Sept. 15. Classes meet at 6:30pm Monday evenings. Pepsi Center West MONTEREY—It’s not quite the Pepsi Center, but local Dems are billing tonight’s live simulcast of Barack Obama’s Democratic National Convention acceptance speech as “the biggest party west of Denver.” All 1,000 tickets are already spoken for, but here’s the catch: There’s still space for volunteers.
