Huge Cuts at Californian
The Californian lays off 30 percent of staff.

Complying with Gannett’s call for massive cutbacks, The Salinas Californian and El Sol newspapers announced plans this week to lay off 30 percent of its workforce.
“Layoffs started Tuesday and finished Wednesday, with 21 people losing their jobs immediately and another 14 positions to be cut over the next six to eight weeks,” says an article in today’s Californian.
While no reporters or photographers lost their jobs, the paper laid off its entire copy desk. Another Gannett paper, The Visalia Times-Delta is expected to lay out and design the Californian and El Sol.
