What is the worst cooking disaster you’ve had?

Asked at Monterey Coast Brewing in Salinas.

Follow-up: What are the most underrated/overrated ice cream flavors?

JOSE SANCHEZ |Coast Brewing Manager | Salinas

A: I fell asleep while cooking pinto beans. They boiled over and all got burnt. My apartment was completely filled with smoke when I woke up. The pot was crusted with burnt beans.

Plain Speak: Vanilla is underrated; I love guacamole but not avocado ice cream.

JILL AYERS | Operations Manager | Santa Cruz

A: This past weekend I was cooking at my sister’s for all of our family. I tried to introduce soy meatballs, but they didn’t stay together. It was like soy mush, so I mixed it in with the pasta.

Easy Feeling: Green Tea is really good. Cookie dough is overrated—too much dough.

JASON COLLINS | Surfer | Santa Cruz

A: I love to cook, but the stupidest thing I’ve done was left Pop Tarts in the toaster and went to go surf. I came back because I forgot something. The toaster was on fire!

Nutty Idea: Peanut butter chocolate. It’s good. Anything Ben & Jerry’s [is overrated]. Too many weird flavors.
