In Surprise Move, Governor Schwarzenegger Appoints Attorney Tom Wills to Monterey County Superior Court Bench
Friday, May 16, 2008
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger tossed a heavy wrench into the June 3 election Friday afternoon by appointing judicial candidate Tom Wills to the Monterey County Superior Court bench. Wills was appointed to the seat vacated by the removal of Judge Jose Velasquez in 2007. Wills’ is a candidate for a different seat held by retiring judge Stephen Sillman, and his campaign has generated tremendous support both from other judges and from the legal community as a whole. At the completion of the second week of the month long election (mail-in voting started May 5), Will's has garnered more local endorsements than the other candidates combined. Wills’ name will remain on the June 3 ballot along with his former opponents Luma Serrano Williams, Mark Hood, and Todd Hornik.
