MARINA COMMISSION SEATS | MARINA—The city of Marina seeks residents (who are also registered voters) to fill one seat on the Planning Commission and one seat on the Economic Development Commission. OCEAN GUARDIAN GRANTS | COUNTYWIDE—NOAA’s Office of National Marine Sanctuaries offers grants of up to $6,000 to California schools (including Monterey County kindergartens through high schools) whose students create a school- or community-based conservation project that protects their local watershed and the ocean. Interested schools may register by e-mail to Seaberry.Nachbar@noaa.gov to receive an application and guidelines on how to create an action plan for implementing a project.

AG AGAINST HUNGER | SALINAS—Ag Against Hunger seeks volunteers to get involved in its gleaning program. Working with local growers, volunteers help collect produce that has been left behind after commercial harvest. The food they collect is then transported to food banks and pantries in the tri-county area. A barbecue follows the glean. Reservations requested. 8:30-11:30am. USED OIL AND FILTER COLLECTION | CASTROVILLE—The Monterey County Health Department hosts a used oil and filter collection event.
