CANINE CAMPUS REVISITED… Last summer we broke the story about retired developer Joel Gambord’s quest to build a doggy college near Marina’s airport. The city of Marina didn’t roll over for the canine proposal at first. But on May 20 the City Council voted to exclusively negotiate with the Institute for Canine Studies for a campus. Now instead of soldiers for war, Marina could host dog-training organizations like Pups for Peace. [ZS]
CLOSED-DOOR POLICY… Cedar Funding is shut out of the real estate business – at least for now. As first reported May 19 on www.montereycountyweekly.com, the California Department of Real Estate suspended Cedar Funding and owner David Nilsen’s real estate license for 100 days, beginning Friday, May 16. After a thorough audit, the state found that Nilsen failed to put nearly $14 million of investor funds in a trust account and loaned $37.8 million to his own companies, among other accusations. [ZS]
DANGEROUS BEAUTY… The last time we reported on Wannabe Tinseltown Plastic Surgeon/Unlicensed Doc Daniel Tomas Fuente Serrano, he was shacking up with Lionel Richie’s ex-wife Dian Richie, and the duo were throwing Hollywood House Parties where Serrano would inject his version of anti-wrinkle juice (consisting of such things as industrial-grade silicone and motor oil) into members of Hollywood royalty like Lionel and Dian Richie, Larry King’s wife Shawn King, and the Ex of Rock ‘N Roll herself, Priscilla Presley. Presley claims Serrano sent her to Heartbreak Hotel when he froze her face with his motor oil. Shortly after the Weekly’s story, Dr. Jiffy Lube was sentenced to 18 months in a federal pen. Serrano barely had time for a lube job after his release in late April before Immigration and Customs Enforcement snatched him up and sent him to Lancaster, Calif., to await deportation back to Argentina. CORT PENS GREEN BOOK… Pacific Grove Mayor Dan Cort has turned out to be a bean-counting jolly green giant. Cort’s writing a book about P.G.’s eco-lution, with the working title The Urban Village and How Communities Learn. He expects Park Place Publications to publish it later this year. As reported on www.montereycountyweekly.com May 15, the mayor’s economically savvy green initiatives turned the heads of international sustainability summit organizers, who invited him to speak in Albuquerque last week.
