Marina contestant
“American voters ‘want straight talk… They are also tired of campaigns that focus on everything but the reality of what the next president will be able to deliver.’”
Leon Panetta’s advice can also apply to local races.
For over 20 years, Marina candidates offered to improve downtown and could not deliver after elected, simply because there was no available fund.
I am the only Marina Council candidate who offers a realistic funding and financial plan to improve Marina downtown and adjacent areas. I want to sell 300 housing units the City owns for between $150,000 and $200,000 to Marina police officers, fire fighters, teachers, workers, current tenants, and low-income residents. The money from the sale will be offered to new businesses that bring new jobs to the downtown Marina in the form of a cash incentive of $20,000 for each new job. The sale proceed will also be used to resurface Reservation Road, enhance the landscaping on Reservation Road and Del Monte Boulevard, and construct missing sidewalk on Carmel Avenue and Reindollar Avenue. I also offer the same incentive to new businesses at the airport.
For the five existing mobile home parks, I want to adopt a conversion ordinance, a rent stabilization ordinance, rezone the five parks to be permanent mobile home use, and designate land in the former Fort Ord for a future mobile home park. For the Equestrian Center, I plan to keep it open and work with the community to make improvements. I ask for your votes.

We are delighted that Dan Cort is willing to run again for mayor of P.G. Dan clearly understands that P.G.’s special charm, the health of its economy and environment and the welfare of its people go hand-in-hand. The old-fashioned values of a green and walkable downtown naturally encourage shopping and eating at local businesses. Dan has a rare gift for creatively turning potential conflicts into win-win outcomes. Working together, even in these challenging times, we can find practical ways to meet everyone’s needs for water, energy and basic city services, all while sustaining our town’s unmatched beauty and character. Vote for Dan Cort and candidates for City Council who share forward-looking community values.
John and Vicki Pearse | Pacific GroveCorrections:
In our Measure Z endorsement (Oct. 16-22), we incorrectly reported the transportation plan’s funding for alternative transportation. If Monterey County voters approve Measure Z, 25 percent of the money will be used for mass transit, bicycle and pedestrian transportation, smart-growth incentives and habitat conservation.
In the Seaside City Council endorsement, (Oct. 16-22), we misidentified Ian Oglesby.
In “Bailout Blues’’ (Oct. 19-15), Arcadio Quiambo said the company he formerly worked for, Seed Dynamics, didn’t fire younger workers. The company denies age was a factor in Quiambo’s layoff, citing the economy and job performance.
The Weekly regrets the errors.
