Fetherolf promises Salinas will get grasp on gang problem

By Zachary Stahl

After being sworn in as Salinas' police chief today, Louis Fetherolf vowed to take down the city's violent gangs and build stronger ties with the community.

Fetherolf, who was formerly a deputy sheriff in Riverside County, said he will seek federal, state and county resources to curtail gang violence that has claimed 12 lives in Salinas this year. He also said he would explore a RICO case against Salinas organized crime syndicates.

"We will relentlessly go after the shot callers, the behind the scene manipulators who exploit the shooters to do their dirty work," Fetherolf said.
