Monterey County to receive $2.5 million for energy efficiency projects

Monterey County will receive $2.5 million and Salinas will get $1.3 million in federal grants to improve energy efficiency and reduce fossil fuel emissions, Rep. Sam Farr’s office announced today.

Funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the Central Coast will receive nearly $4.7 million to fund programs, including energy audits, building retrofits, and renewable energy installations on government buildings.

“The Recovery Act is a great investment in our country, and few parts of this legislation illustrate that better than these energy grants,” Farr said in a prepared statement. “These projects will create jobs, save taxpayer dollars and help modernize the way we use energy in our communities.”
