KUDOS FOR MMA PIECE

We very much appreciate the article “Fifty Grand” (April 9-15) marking the Monterey Museum of Art’s 50thAnniversary. Also, the exhibitionSeeing Ourselveswas a traveling exhibition organized by the International Museum of Photography and Film at George Eastman House.

There are two significant executive directors in the Museum’s recent past whose important contributions merit recognition. Jo Farb Hernandez, executive director from 1986 through 1993, shepherded the Museum through the capital campaign and construction of the Charles Moore addition to MMA La Mirada. Richard Gadd, executive director from 1995-2004, was responsible for bringing much of the photography collection to the Museum. Both changed the face of the Museum, along with many dedicated board members, staff and volunteers.

Kudos to Michael Jacobs, voted Best Actor in Monterey County for 2008! In addition to his own acting roles, Michael shares his acting passion with teens as a drama teacher at Carmel High. Our son is among the many students benefitting from Michael’s excellent direction.

An opportunity for the community to catch a fun performance is the upcoming Laugh Lines, presented Sunday, April 19, at 2-3:30pm.

Laugh Lines should be a great way to lighten up after “tax day” and see some of our local teen actors in action! Abbot and Costello’s “Who’s On First” is just one of many comedy routines they will present. Come enjoy the fun!

KUDOS III

Kudos to Kera Abraham for a most enlightening article on the Monterey Bay Shores development (April 2-9). The big surprise was its potential effect on the Carmel River because of the resort’s access to the Seaside aquifer. Maybe it’s time for the water district to consider a new location to sequester Carmel River run-off within the Valley in a separate facility.

I just read Kera Abraham’s article about the new hotel being planned in Sand City and I wanted to let you know that it was some of the best writing (journalistic and otherwise) that I have come across in a while.

It was well researched, and I love your free-lance style: sooo much better than all that dry stuff from the Herald.
