How do Santa Cruz and Monterey compare?

Asked at Café Pergolesi in Santa Cruz.

Follow-up: How would you describe Monterey in five words or less?

ROSIE STEVENSON | Student | San Francisco

A: People are more accessible here than in Monterey. They’re more interesting and open.

City Planning: It’s organized and beautiful.

DAVID FREIDMAN | Bookseller | Santa Cruz

A: Santa Cruz is more of a student town and Monterey is more of a military town. Santa Cruz, the beach town of the Silicon Valley, is not quite as wealthy. Monterey is cleaner.

Limerick: Rocky Del Monte playground.

ZRENEE ZAVAS MCCABE | Barista | Santa Cruz

A: It’s not as damn windy. I’m not a big fan of Monterey, though they have the Aquarium, which I love. I guess they’re one up on us on that. I feel like we have more of a local, live music scene and bands. There’s not a lot of subculture there.

Bowled Over: Windy and blue and beautiful.
