18-year-old slain near Hartnell College

An 18-year-old man was shot and killed behind Hartnell College on Central Avenue last night, marking Salinas' 29th gang-related homicide of the year. Salinas Police said Brian Beecher was shot multiple times in the upper torso when authorities arrived on the scene about 7pm. He was transported to Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital and later pronounced dead.
"Witnesses describe seeing two male suspects in dark clothing running from the area westbound toward Nacional Street," police said in a statement. "A vehicle was seen leaving the area that might be involved. The vehicle is described as a dark colored 4-door sedan, which left the area westbound on Archer Street."
Police said Beecher was "known to associate with gangs" and he was not a Hartnell College student.
