Colinas Ranch easement donated to Land Trust

The Stoney family has donated a conservation easement on the 1,107-acre Colinas Ranch in the Gabilan foothills to the Big Sur Land Trust. "This action by the Stoney family will ensure the protection in perpetuity of some of the Central Coast’s most significant oak woodlands habitat, large intact native grasslands, riparian forests, and critical wildlife corridors," the Land Trust said in a statement.

The ranch is owned by Ron and Linda Stoney. "While working on cattle ranches growing up in Carmel Valley, I was attracted to the land and have since seen just how impactful land can be," Ron said in the statement. "After acquiring this undisturbed pristine rangeland and enjoying its quiet pleasure for many years, it was really important to my wife and I that we preserve the true gift that land provides for both people and wildlife."

The easement will allow the Stoney family to maintain ownership of the property but also preclude any other future development from occurring, the Land Trust said.
