Two teens shot in Salinas, police make arrest on January homicide
Thursday, February 19, 2009
Two teens were shot last night on Acosta Plaza in Salinas after they drove into a fire hydrant.
According to Salinas police, at about 10 p.m. two males started arguing with the 17-year-old boys while they were driving recklessly in the parking lot of 914 Acosta Plaza. One of the suspects shot the teens, one in the shoulder area with a bullet lodging in his neck and the other in the left hand. Both victims were flown to a Bay Area hospital where they are listed in stable condition. Police consider the case gang related.
Police yesterday also arrested a second suspect in the Jan. 12 slaying of 19-year-old James Lopez, who was shot and killed near the intersection of John Street and McGowan Drive. Police charged Benjamin Puga Carrillo, 19, with homicide. Police previously arrested 26-year-old Valentin Navarro Rivas for the homicide, one of six murders that occurred in the beginning of the year.
