The number of consecutive months there was a major (Category 3 or above) hurricane on the Atlantic coast, the first year that has happened July through November. The year 2008 also marked the second highest number of tornadoes (just under 1,700) since measurements started in 1953 and, as of press time, was on track to be one of the ten warmest years on record for the globe.
