Boxer to visit Pajaro to highlight flood protection project

Sen. Barbara Boxer will visit Watsonville tomorrow to highlight the Pajaro River Flood Protection Project. This week the Senate passed a bill, which includes $425,000 sought by Boxer to help upgrade the Pajaro River's levee system, according to a news release.

"The levees along the Pajaro River are 60-years-old, dilapidated, and provide inadequate flood protection," the release says. "The Pajaro River Flood Protection Project will replace the existing levees to meet a 100-year-storm flood protection level for the City of Watsonville, Town of Pajaro, and the surrounding agricultural lands."

Local elected officials, including Monterey County Supervisor Simon Salinas, will join Boxer.
