Multiple Sclerosis Community Services to shut down
Friday, June 12, 2009
Multiple Sclerosis Community Services, a tri-county nonprofit that has served people with MS for 41 years, is closing due to a steep drop in donation and grants, the organization announced today.
In a news release, MSCS said it was recently denied a grant because of insufficient funds. "At this point it would take a generous $50,000 in order for us to keep our doors open," the organization said.
MSCS provided services including, wheelchairs, hospital beds, scooters, meals and help with rent for people with MS and their families throughout Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito counties.
The organization said it will be liquidating all office supplies in order to pay unpaid bills, including back pay for part-time Executive Director Jan Wermuth.
