County Unemployment Rate Hits 16.2 percent

Monterey County's unemployment rate rose to 16.2 percent in February, its highest mark in 10 years, according to state estimates released today.

The county shed an additional 2,600 jobs between January and February, bringing the total number of unemployed workers to 35,000.

In comparison, the state's and nation's unemployment rate was 10.9 percent and 8.9 percent, respectively.
